Aviva Zero is an innovative way we’re pushing forward our sustainability agenda through product design. To do this, we’ve invested in a new IT platform for Aviva Zero allowing us to create a better experience for our customers.
Aviva Zero is built to test and learn, meaning we’re listening to what you tell us and seeing how you use the product. We’re using this feedback to continue to grow and evolve, putting you at the heart of the business.
At the heart of Aviva Zero is the fact you can give something back to the planet. You’re helping to fund a project that's contributing to carbon offsetting in a real way. Plus, if you own an electric vehicle, you’re in safe hands, as we currently insure 1 in 8 electric vehicles in the UK.
ClimateCare is the partner we work with to support carbon offsetting initiatives.
Aviva has worked with ClimateCare since 2006. In those years, we’ve offset emissions that can’t be reduced or avoided by supporting high-quality projects that have measurable, positive environmental and social impacts. We want to be part of the solution.
For Aviva Zero Car Insurance, we’re currently offsetting emissions by purchasing carbon credits from a solar water heating project in India. There’ll be a hot water supply in and community and commercial buildings that’s fuelled by renewable energy. It’s a mean, green, clean machine.
Plus, it can save money on energy too, reducing electricity bills by replacing grid-dependent electric heating units.
Our initiatives with ClimateCare have seen some lovely things happen
Gyapa Stoves Project, Ghana
80% of people in Ghana use solid fuels – those you burn for energy – to cook food, releasing carbon dioxide and toxic fumes into the environment. It contributes to climate change and leads to millions of premature deaths across the country.
A Gyapa stove is less smoky, cooks food quicker, and needs 46% less fuel to run. And as well as cutting down toxic fumes and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over four million tonnes so far, it actually saves families up to 100 US$ every year.
It’s also created jobs in manufacturing for skilled ceramicists and metal workers, and local shop owners benefit from selling the stoves to a wider market than before.
Wind Power Project, Turkey
Turkey is powered largely by fossil fuels. And the fast economic and population growth in the last two decades has driven a strong demand for energy.
Carbon financing is helping to develop renewable power plants across the country that are hooked up to the grid. These wind farms produce reliable, green electricity and reduce Turkey’s reliance on fossil fuels. The power plants also create jobs in construction, installation and ongoing maintenance, with local people often prioritised for the roles.
